The Kano State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)regarding gas utilization from the Ajaokuta-Kaduma-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline.

At a cost of $2.8 billion, the single largest gas project in the country, the 614km AKK Gas Pipeline comprises the first phase of the Trans-Nigeria Gas Pipeline (TNPG) project and is expected to boost domestic gas consumption, power generation and industrialization.

Kano Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by his deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gwanna, said that his administration had approved the project’s delivery point at Tamburaway in Dawakin Kudu and called investors to take advantage of investment opportunities in the project, stating that “the project is very important to the state,” and that, “a special committee will be working with other stakeholders to fast track the take-off of the project.”

Managing Director of the GACN, Olalekan Ogunleye, described the signing of the MoU for gas utilization as an expression of confidence by the Government of Nigeria, which has designated Kano as an important gas hub for the country.
