Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, has stated that there is no definite date for the withdrawal of gasoline subsidies at this point in time.
He stated this on Thursday, noting that the government is sensitive of its citizen,s needs.
“I cannot give you a date for now. But the Vice President is actually leading the efforts and very soon, we will tell Nigerians what date the removal of subsidy will kick in,” said the minister,
“We have to be sensitive of our people ; you cannot argue that just because you have the muscle, you can box everyone in the room down to their level. What we’re saying is that we need to put some frameworks in place first, so that the impact on people is as minimal as possible before proceeding. We’re attempting to develop a more inexpensive and less expensive alternative to the current system
The government, he added, is also making efforts to put in place mechanism that will help lessen the impact of the final removal of subsidies.
