The Forum of Nigerian Electricity Regulators (FONER) has reaffirmed its commitment to a more coordinated, transparent, and responsive electricity regulatory environment, following its second meeting held recently in Abuja with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs).
The regulators in the cause of the meeting advocated need for improved access to timely, reliable, and real-time operational data from distribution companies, particularly at the feeder level.
Discussions also highlighted Band A supply performance and the importance of stronger state-level oversight to support better regulatory decisions and improved service delivery to electricity consumers.
Participants further considered how technology could be more deployed to support market transparency, including the possible deployment of Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled monitoring systems and stronger data infrastructure across the electricity value chain. These measures were identified as critical to enhancing visibility, performance monitoring, and accountability within the sector.
The Forum also reviewed key operational and regulatory matters affecting the market, including market settlement, sub-distribution company operations, asset delineation, and metering. Members agreed that sustained technical engagement and closer collaboration between federal and state regulators remain essential to addressing these issues effectively.
A major milestone of the meeting was the review and adoption of FONER’s Business Rules, which provide a clearer operational framework for the Forum. The Rules reinforce FONER’s role as a voluntary platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, peer learning, and regulatory collaboration among electricity regulators across Nigeria.
By bringing NERC and SERCs together, FONER continues to provide an important platform for aligning regulatory priorities, sharing practical experiences, and developing coordinated responses to emerging challenges in Nigeria’s electricity market. The Forum stated that it will continue to promote innovation, effective oversight, and regulatory cooperation in support of a reliable, efficient, and sustainable electricity sector for consumers and stakeholders nationwide.

SanlamAllianz Nigeria has reminded Nigerians that Insurance should be seen as more than a safety net against unforeseen risks, but as a financial tool that gives individuals the confidence and security to enjoy their achievements and pursue the next chapters of their lives.
Building on the success of its debut edition, SanlamAllianz Nigeria, comprising SanlamAllianz Life Insurance Nigeria and SanlamAllianz General Insurance Nigeria, unveiled ‘Proud Moments 2.0’, a campaign celebrating Nigerians’ journeys, milestones, achievements and the moments that inspire pride.
The initiative marks a refreshing shift from the traditional fear-based approach or uncertainty to insurance, reframing the narrative through positivity and the recognition of life’s hard-earned achievements.
Built around a strong proposition, “You’ve Earned It. Celebrate It”, Proud Moments 2.0 shines light on not just one person’s successes, but also on the invaluable support systems: parents, grandparents, teachers, neighbors, mentors, friends and loved ones; all who helped make those dreams come true.
From starting a business, purchasing a first car or home, to achieving educational milestones, building a family or overcoming personal challenges, the campaign recognizes that success means something different to each person.
Commenting, Chris Ekwonwa, Group Head, Strategy, Marketing and Customer Relations, SanlamAllianz Nigeria, said, “At SanlamAllianz Nigeria, we strongly believe that insurance should not be viewed merely as a response to what could go wrong, but as an empowering enabler that recognizes, celebrates and provides people with the confidence, financial security and peace to enjoy what they have worked hard to achieve and continue towards life’s next chapters.
“This is why we are launching our Proud Moments 2.0 campaign, to remind the market that we are not just in the business of providing insurance solutions; but also recognize that every achievement, big or little, is a proud moment worth celebrating,” he maintains.
The campaign which will run for upwards of eight weeks across digital platforms, includes a socials-only call for nominations of trending and emotional true-life events, with clear positive denouements; a national radio campaign and product advertising on select digital platforms.
Shedding light on the campaign, Bankole Banjo, Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager, SanlamAllianz Nigeria, added: “We want authentic Nigerian stories, published on socials, and with a life-changing outcome. We will select the most resonant and the main character of that story will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to watch the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar courtesy of SanlamAllianz Nigeria. Details are as shared across our various platforms.”
Recall that the underwriter is among the first list of insurers who made the list of recapitalized companies as released by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
The Proud Moments reaffirms the company’s solid financial base, continuous commitment to insurance education and customer appreciation across various economic strata of the Nigerian market.

Ibom Air has denied claims that it is exercising monopoly over operations at Victor Attah International Airport or prevents other airlines from operating from the airport.
In a statement, the airline said it has no authority, mandate or regulatory power to prevent another airline from operating from Uyo, or from any other airport in Nigeria.
It said the decision to authorise, regulate, suspend, or otherwise permit an airline’s operations rests with the appropriate aviation regulatory authorities.
It said: “Under Section 8(3) of the Civil Aviation Act 2022, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is solely responsible for the regulation of civil aviation in Nigeria. Therefore, where an airline meets the applicable regulatory and operational requirements and receives the necessary approvals, another airline cannot simply be prevented from operating by Ibom Air.
“It is important to distinguish between an airline choosing to suspend or adjust its own operations and an airline preventing another carrier from operating. For example, Ibom Air has, at various times, temporarily suspended operations to destinations such as Enugu and Calabar to enable mandatory maintenance and other operational requirements on its aircraft.
“Such decisions are internal operational decisions and should not be interpreted as an attempt to create or maintain a monopoly. Similarly, operational constraints at an airport, including aircraft availability, fuel logistics, airport infrastructure, scheduling and regulatory requirements, can affect the number or frequency of flights without meaning that one airline is controlling access to the airport.”
The airline said it welcomes competition as more airlines operating from Uyo can mean more travel options for passengers, greater choice of schedules and fares, increased connectivity for Akwa Ibom and the wider South-South region, greater passenger traffic into the airport and a stronger aviation ecosystem and destination economy.
